I think I might be losing my taste for telenovelas. Maybe? It's more like I'm losing my taste for watching every day? Or maybe it's just the lack of anything really compelling? Or do I suddenly have a fear of committing to anything?

Even Rubí started to feel too long. And I've still got 50ish episodes of PVAA to finish.

You're probably just losing your taste for mediocre or predictable novelas. Remember how much we all enjoyed Anónima?

Yeah! It's like post telenovela depression or something. And there doesn't seem to be anything on the horizon that could take its place.

Well Me Declaro... on the fence. The first episode isn't so gawd awful that I am immediately dismissing it. It's pretty bad, but there are some actors I like watching (Juan Soler, Mayrin Villanueva, Alejandra Can't Remember Her Last Name, Can't Remember His First Name Corbarrubias.)

(Do we need a dedicated thread for "Shows that just started" or "First episode reviews"?)

I think I'm about to commit a mortal sin, but I'm not impressed with Daniela Castro's acting.

(Maybe? I'm always down for a first episode review. It make make it easier to determine watch party status?)

I was also a little disappointed at how over the top DC seemed. She's usually more subtle isn't she? (I haven't seen her in a lot.)

My goodness Julián is a complete ass. (Me declaro culpable.) Why isn't anyone calling him on his BS?

So I'm interested in the story they are presenting, but it's being executed pretty badly. The acting is not good....except for Juan Soler and Mayrin Villanueva. I'd watch them over everyone else.

OK. Well. Now that episode 2 is over I think I can safely say I am done. I am no longer on the fence. 😆

So in my wanderings around the internet I have discovered this show: Prodigios.

Yes its essentially a kids talent/competition show but they compete in classical voice, ballet and instrumental performance. The episodes are long but I really enjoyed the one I saw (season 2 episode 1)

I finally got around to checking out Monarcas. I've watched two episodes and I like it. With this programming drought I might have to take a break from networks and stick with Netflix for a bit. 😥

Me declaro culpable . . . of actually watching and enjoying this novela! Yes, it's full of clichés and campy acting, but it's just so much fun. Daniela Castro is literally chewing up the scenery, and I can't help getting a kick out of her. Sabine Moussier is actually giving a pretty nuanced performance, as a woman who is at times supremely in control, but on other occasions about to crack. There are only 60 episodes, and we're already close to the halfway mark.

I think I recall your saying you've read El ruido de las cosas al caer?

This article just popped up on my Twitter feed and since the book starts with Escobar's hippos I thought I'd share.... As usual, I am sharing a link without actually reading 🤣 Hope it works.

My reading group read that book, so they will love this article. Thanks so much for sharing it!

It's amazing that Escobar not only impacted Colombian society, politics, and economy, but apparently managed to change the very ecosystem!

I assume you mean the rest of the school year, right? When does it end? Do you get any vacation?
