Salvation Army senior housing employee sent a resident a letter telling her not to speak Spanish. Rewriting the letter was part of the inspiration for the War on Spanish post.

Both of these are from Texas. News flash citizens of the US- that was once México. Treaty of Hidalgo. Look it up. In many cases the people didn't cross the border the border crossed them.

Well, in my case, the "home language" was English. The language at Abuela's house, where we spent our weekdays while my parents were at work was Spanish. So once we started school and especially after Abuela died, Spanish went out the window.

I always wonder why abuelo didn't use Spanish with his kids. I guess because grandma didn't speak Spanish. It's just so sad to me.

Spanish is not a country.
