At a few pages below 200 and short chapters organized by the protagonist’s affinity for different activities, this was a very exciting and enjoyable  read.   The protagonist Lupita  is a policewoman who witnesses the murder of a politician at the beginning of the novel. What follows is a quest to solve a couple of mysteries:  Who killed the politician? — and — Who is this greatly flawed policewoman Lupita?  Pre-Colombian  mythology with its symbols and the current followers of this “old time” religion are integrated into the story and play a part in the solutions.

I know you mentioned this one once before and I bought it. I need to find where I put it!

Funny, I was just thinking today that I wanted to make more of an effort to read in Spanish. I'm trying to pare down the number of shows I'm watching or at least choose more once a week Spanish programming ...but Jefa and Acacias and Luna...  😢

Woo hoo! Found it!

I might pick this up after I finish La isla bajo el mar. Though I kind of want to read El reino de este mundo next because both books cover the same period of Haitian history.

“Paring down” my tv viewing is not going so well on my end either and my reading is not going as quickly as I would like because of it. My book piles just keep growing thanks to Amazon and  friends that give me books “I just have to read” (maybe not).

I read slowly no matter the language and that really doesn't help. I had to read Ines del Alma mía for a workshop and I finally had to switch to the Spanish audiobook. Apparently my ability to sit and listen is better than my ability to sit and read.
