“Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time”

What a surprise to find this book on the 2018 book list for the Morton Arboretum’s member book group! The author is Mark Adams and it was  a New York Times bestseller in 2011.   Adams chronicles his efforts to recreate the journey of  Hiram Bingham III who  “discovered” Machu Picchu in 1911.  Besides his own journey, Adams describes Bingham’s as well as giving a very factual history of the Incas.   These three perspectives  along with the colorful characters Adams meets along the way  make this a very enjoyable and informative read about Peru past and present.

That sounds fascinating. I have an app I use for sleep and meditation and one of the "Sleep Stories" is about doing a hiking tour to Machu Picchu. But it works, so I always end up falling asleep and never get to the end!
