One of my gifts this year was Ilusiones S. A. on DVD. I think it's also available on Netflix and/or Amazon video. Jaime Camil was charming as ever and Silvia Mariscal is a treasure. She nearly made me cry.

Did y'all know that there's a Spanish language version of the popular review website Rotten Tomatoes? It's called Tomatazos, and one of my favorite Mexican critics, Arturo Magaña Arce, is a contributor:

Ha! That's great! I'm going to add that to the top post.

This came out of nowhere--No Manches Frida 2 will be in theaters March 15. I liked the first one, so whenever I can watch it at home, I'll probably give this one a try. Even if it's just a collection of shenanigans with the characters from the previous movie, I think I'd be OK with that.

Overboard is on Amazon Prime streaming. It's one of those "I should not be laughing at this" kind of movies, but then so was the first one. The guys at the pizza place watching telenovelas was a nice addition.

I watched Overboard recently too. I wasn't actually interested in watching it, but it was free and I was pleasantly surprised. It had more Spanish than I thought it would, so that was nice.

I recently watched a movie called Ella y El Candidato on DVD and it was pretty good. Not spectacular, but a good solid movie. I felt like they did a good job with the love story and summarizing a relationship  so that I cared about it. Its from 2011 so 8 years old and I don't know where its available streaming or whatever (sorry)

There aren't a lot of familiar faces but the movie tells the story effectively and I liked the performances.

Thanks for the recommendation! Amazon didn't even seem to have the DVD BUT it did lead me to another film by the same director called El estudiante about college kids and a 70 year old man bonding over Don Quijote.

I'm still going to be on the lookout for Ella y el candidato too.

I found it at my local library. 🙂  It looked interesting and the selection was kind of limited so I gave it a try. Glad I did.

I found El estudiante free on YouTube. It's low-res, but I can tell I'm going to like it after watching the first 30 minutes. Thanks for the heads up! Here's the YouTube link: https://youtu.be/U6Bb9CGAr6A

I watched it last night. I think it will resonate with you, as an educator. It has a really sweet message and some noteworthy quotes that someone collected below. My favorite, used when someone is no longer with you: "¿Cómo desacostumbrarme a la bella costumbre de tu compañía?"
