El Secreto de Selena
I also can’t help resenting the fact that we don’t get to hear any of Selena’s hits. What’s a show about Selena without her music? 😬

Not worth watching. 🤣
I was about to say that the big "Secreto" is why this mess is getting such stellar ratings, but then I realized . . . I'm still watching it! In my case, it's due to the scheduling: since none of my regular novelas or gossip shows are on over the weekend, the pickings are slim. And Masterpiece on PBS is still in summer reruns, so Selena it is!
This 3rd episode was weirder than ever. An actress playing the young Selena performed Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun (again, because none of Selena's real hits are allowed here) in heavily accented English that made it sound beyond peculiar. The trouble is, Selena's first language was English and she didn't have a Mexican accent. She didn't learn Spanish until late in life.
The other head-scratcher was why we were subjected to lots of lovey-dovey scenes between María Celeste and her then-husband Manny. That marriage ended in divorce and a nasty legal battle, so why should we care about what went on between them 20-plus years ago?
Now we've really entered the realm of fantasy. María Celeste boasts of her journalistic integrity all the time, but how can anyone know what went on in Selena and Chris' bedroom? Where does she come up with those dialogs and scenes of sexual incompatibility? Give us a break!
Why, oh why, am I still watching this? However, the actress playing Yolanda continues to impress.
