[Sticky] Other Spanish-language TV
Here's your place to tell us what you're watching and see if anyone else is watching too. You can also tell us what you've seen available on streaming services and who knows, start a Watch Party.
I'm about to do another episode of Velvet season 2, but since I'm in here anyway, other TV offerings from Netflix include:
Silvana Sin Lana (even though it's on daytime?)
The Queen of Flow (La Reina del Flow, Colombian)
Sen Senos Ni Hay Paraiso and Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraiso (both seasons)
Enemigo Intimo (that seems fast)
Muñecas de la Mafia (2009)
La Esclava Blanca
Cable Girls (3 seasons)
Lo Que La Vida Me Robó
Rebelde (1 season?)
Pasión de Gavilanes (also on NBC Universo)
Rubi AND Teresa
La Reina del Sur (also on NBC Universo)
Tonight I watched the premier of Me caigo de risa on Uni. I'm not a big game show/comedy fan, but I knew it would challenge my Spanish. Understanding humor in a foreign language has always seemed like the final frontier to me!
Anyway, I was bored by the visual humor (especially two lengthy segments with the same steeply inclined stage that they used as a reto on NBL), but the word games provided what I was after. I liked when one person had to describe a word for another one to guess (classic vocab enrichment!), as well as a segment where the contestants had to come up with words in several categories that all began with a particular letter. My favorite game of all was a series of rapid-fire jokes, where the challenge was to keep a straight face and not laugh. I had a blast trying to catch all the punchlines without having to rewind (that was my challenge: understand on the first try!). Here's an example:
"¿Qué le dijo una uva verde a una uva roja?"
Anyway, if you want to exercise your audio comprehension, give the show a try. Be sure to record it, so you can FF through the bits that don't interest you.
Thanks, @lindaf! Was Ricardo Margaleff on it? I caught this a couple of times when it was on Unimás (I guess that was another season?) and Margaleff was really great at the word games.
I'll record next week's episode.
