La Vecina, Wednesday 1/13/16 #143

Well, that was intense. My stomach is still in knots.

We open the episode with an all-new scene. No refrito today! It’s hot and fresh out of the oven. Too bad it’s Isa and Ema. I mean, if you’re going to give me all new stuff, why not Anto and Sara? Heck, even Titina would have been better.

Oh. Right. Recap. *ahem*

Ema and Isa both agree that Anto does NOT need to be with Sara. They will join their black forces of evil to keep them apart. Isa receives a call from Santiago. Guillermo is reviewing the audit and wants to know if the preliminary results have come back. Santiago told him no, and Isa is pleased. The only thing she wants her father to see is the final result. [Isa’s shoes are hideous.]

Rafa and Sebas discuss Eduardo’s situation. Rafa is going to be in charge of the plant while Sebas and Sara are away. Rafa moves on to plant business. Nelson is pretty sure one of Pedro’s men is following him. Maybe it’s because Pedro saw him at El Molcajete. Or maybe it’s because David is, in fact, the DF informant and suspects something is up with Nelson. Sebas asks Rafa to advise Nelson to act normal and not do anything out of the ordinary. Maybe Pedro’s man will decide there’s nothing to suspect and stop tailing Nelson. Sara arrives and Rafa offers to take them to the airport.

Before he can leave, Titina calls Sebas. She thinks his sudden trip to the DF is just one of his excuses to get away from her, but he eventually convinces her it’s legit [why is he suddenly acting more effeminate? Please educate me, there is not a universal gay behavior, right? I mean…normal, every day behavior…correct? So is there a reason why he has to suddenly adopt this gay persona to be more convincing? Oh right…recap.] While he’s gone, he would like Titina to find a good doctor. She’s almost two months along and she should have an ultrasound to make sure everything is ok. She promises to do that and have the results ready for him to see when he gets back. Uh oh…he meant he wants to go with her and see the ultrasound with his own eyes. [Ha ha! Titina is screwed.]

Antonio is at the bank trying to apply for loans and mortgages. He can get maybe 500,000 pesos with a personal loan. With the mortgage he can only get 1,200,000 pesos. Clearly not enough.

Maria is at the pharmacy and they don’t have the ointment Laura sent her for. She’s going to try another pharmacy [anyone care to explain the difference between a farmacia and a botica? She used both words. I feel rather stupid for asking.] The doorbell rings. She expects it’s Cheo, who is supposed to pick up an envelope from Pedro. It’s Simon and he’s not fooled by the sunglasses Laura put on. He knows it’s Pedro. Simon tells Laura she has to press charges. Laura can’t and she asks him to leave. Pedro’s men are watching. Simon asks if Pedro hit her because of her relationship with Bruno. Pedro only suspects she’s carrying on with Bruno. Simon hates to think what Pedro would do if he knew for certain. Simon doesn’t have to worry because Bruno broke up with Laura. Simon is going to report Pedro if she won’t. Laura begs him not to. Pedro would take it out on her and them! She just needs to behave the way Pedro wants her to [which is probably the saddest line I’ve ever heard. Poor Laura.]

Mariana and Anto discuss the money situation. They don’t understand how this all happened. Anto is finding out that the family house is mortgaged to the hilt and everything has been a lie. What was Eduardo doing with the money? Mariana is so sad because she always had her dad up on a pedestal and she’s so disillusioned now. [Isa’s plan is just vile. She’s potentially ruined the relationship Eduardo had with his children. I hate Isa and her hideous shoes.]

Simon tries to convince Bruno that they need to report Pedro. Bruno is really against that. Pedro is a killer. Simon thinks that’s taking things a little too far, but Bruno calmly explains that Pedro is the head of the saqueadores operation. Sebas told him so Bruno would keep away from Laura. Bruno doesn’t want Laura to be exposed to danger. Bruno leaves in a huff.

Sara and Sebas arrive at the hospital. Ema hisses and spits at her. She doesn’t want Sara anywhere near her. Anto shuffles her out. He and Sara head for the cafeteria. Mariana stays behind to tell Ema what a bitch she is. Isa pisses me off acting all “please don’t fight.” I hate those two shrews.

Guillermo is a good businessman. He insists on actually looking at the numbers and charts of the audit. He cannot figure out how the money was taken from an account he already closed! He calls the accounting firm. While double-checking the numbers, the accountant mentions the preliminary reports that they sent. This gets Guillermo’s attention. What preliminary reports? Guillermo then questions Santiago, who folds like a cheap lawn chair. Santiago rats out Isa faster than you can say “hideous shoes.” Guillermo calls for his car then calls Isa. She is to meet him at the hospital cafeteria in 10 minutes. He doesn’t give her any hints about why.

At the hospital cafeteria, Sara gets a call from her mother. She fills her in on Eduardo’s condition. Anto and Sebas talk Eduardo, fraude, and Conatrol. The snafu with Marina comes up and Anto says something about Sara being imprudent and things getting out of control…it right about this time that Sara walks up and her feelings are hurt. They all sit down for some coffee and it gets all awkward. Mariana asks Sebas if he’ll come with her to get her tablet out of the car. When they leave, Anto and Sara talk about what she heard. It’s not real drive-the-plot kind of stuff so …R to the P to the C. [RPC=Recapper’s Privilege Card. For me that usually means I’m too lazy to go into detail.] OH! Sara did show a little insecurity [totally normal in my opinion] and asks Anto if he still feels anything for Isa. [Man, Esmeralda Pimentel makes art out of puppy dog eyes.]

Bruno sneaks into Laura’s house and watches her sleep. He caresses her face and she wakes up. [Hmm. Ok…a little creepy and I’m not sure that’s the best way to show a woman whose husband terrorizes her how much you care. Just me?] She begs him to go. He swears they are going to find a way to get her away from Pedro’s control. They smooch for a bit. The doorbell sends them flying apart. It’s Cheo. He may be a tool, but he shows true concern at the sight of Laura’s bruised face. He also doesn’t seem to buy her excuse of falling against a drawer. [gaveta]

Isa waits for her dad and she looks nervous. Homegirl knows she’s toast. Guillermo arrives and he’s livid. He knows she tampered with the numbers. Guillermo showed them to Eduardo and now he’s fighting for his life. Isa swears her father and Eduardo were never supposed to see those figures. She was just going to show them to Anto and pressure him to marry her [oh, well if that’s all…seriously, she says this like it’s supposed to make it ok!] Her father *has* to help her. Guillermo refuses. Isa tells him he can forget she’s even his daughter. Guillermo starts to clutch his arm/chest…aw hell.

Coming back from commercial we see that the paramedics have got Guillermo on a gurney and are wheeling him into the hospital. It doesn’t look good.

Bruno sneaks out of Laura’s house. Simon is waiting for him at the truck. On the way home, Bruno swears he tried to tell Laura about what a delinquent Pedro is. Simon can’t believe Bruno fell for a married woman. Bruno can’t help it. Bruno is most worried about Sara. She’s got dealings with Pedro, too.

Ema interrupts Anto and Sara to tell them about Isa’s dad. Sara stays behind, but I was glad Anto kissed her before he left.

Isa cries in the waiting room. As soon as Anto walks in, she flies into his arms and cries uncontrollably. Ema looks on and…smiles. Ew. Yeah. This bruja needs to die.

The doctor informs Isa that her father has passed away. Isa breaks down [I do, too. Guillermo didn’t tell anyone that Eduardo was innocent!] Anto comforts her. Sara sees them hugging and backs away. Luckily Mariana sees Sara and runs after her to explain what it going on. Sara is still a little upset. She’s going to go look for a hotel. She’ll call Anto later.

Mariana comes back to the waiting room. Anto tries to get up but Isa asks him to please stay. She doesn’t want to go in to see her father alone [it looks totally manipulative to me. I’m willing to say that Isa is sad about her father, but I’m willing to bet a big part of her is “Yes! This is a perfect opportunity to get Anto back into my clutches! Seriously, look at her face as Anto gets up to leave.] Anto asks Sebas to go find Sara and take her to the apartment.

Sebas catches up with Sara. Then he calls Natalia to let her know about Guillermo.

Isa goes in to say good-bye to her father. She cries and says he was the only one who truly loved her.  I am unmoved. [I just can’t feel sorry for her and her hideous shoe-wearing self.]

Ema keeps harping. Anto and Isa are meant to be together. She nags Mariana to come to the velorio. Maiana and I make the exact same face.

Merce, Simon and Vicente make sammiches. It distracts me from the conversation. It has something to do with hellish suegras. Good thing Anto loves Sara, ’cause oh man that mother of his!

Anto makes it back to the apartment. Sara is waiting. He has to change for the velorio and asks Sara if she wants to come. I love that she was honest enough to say that a part of her wants to say yes. Then I feel bad for her because she tells Anto she’ll do the prudent thing [referring back to his hurtful words.] He goes to change and that’s the kind of anti-climatic end to this episode.

Gracias, amiba :/ I think I’m still in shock. I’m holding out the completely unreasonable hope that Guillermo’s going to pop up and teach his horrible, no-good, ugly-shoe-wearing offspring a lesson. Don’t mess with Big Daddy G or his bidness. Mr. 5ft is hoping he comes back as a ghost. I’ll take that as a second choice. I rearranged the character list because I just couldn’t bear to move Guillermo down to the dead guy section with the likes of Carmelo. I also changed my poll vote because Isa hit a new low. And then Laura…all of a sudden it’s… Read more »

Yeah. I think Antonio is screwed. Even though there’s no way those fake documents would really hold up in court, not if an outside auditor re-investigated. And Eduardo’s bank accounts won’t have any corresponding activity. But he doesn’t know that. And I have a feeling I’m going to be hating Isa even more today, because I doubt she’ll stop for a second to actually care about her dad’s death…she’ll just keep rolling right along with her plans. Oh! I’m sorry, that was rude of me…I mean she’ll be multitasking through her grief. Bleh!

Since they don’t do avances (for which I’m grateful, usually) I don’t know where they would tell us. But I can’t imagine that they’re not going to try to start wrapping things up.

I’ve fallen behind this week. Not happy to hear that Isa escaped being caught because her father died. And, OMG! I can’t believe he’s dead. I hope that at least means Eduardo will survive. They can’t kill off two dads with heart attacks. Can they?

Hell, I wasn’t expecting two dads to have heart attacks in the first place!

Sara, fantastic recap.
“Pedro would take it out on her and them! She just needs to behave the way Pedro wants her to [which is probably the saddest line I’ve ever heard. Poor Laura.] ” This line stood out to me too.
” Guillermo then questions Santiago, who folds like a cheap lawn chair. Santiago rats out Isa faster than you can say “hideous shoes.” Pfffffft!!! Oh my gosh you have a way with words.

So…. Far….. Behind….Ungh
I was screaming NOOOO right along w/Isa when Guillermo collapsed (first time I ever agreed with her, I think)
but I was upset because I’d been so hopeful when he found out the fraud was a lie.

Thanks so much for the recap (don’t know if you’ll see this now so late, but thanks)

I really thought Isa was playing up her, no daddy don’t leave me sooo aloooneness too.
