In sleepy little San Gaspar, of all places!
Simon brings Profe Cariego to El Molcajete and it turns out he remembers both Sara and Merce from way back. Cariego is impressed that he would see something as cool as a rocket launch in San Gaspar, of all places! And the website is getting everyone all excited over it…Juancho beams with pride. As much as Merce would like to cheer Simon on, these committee meetings are a private affair. Everyone will have to support him from afar.
Edwina tells Magda about running into Serena. They’re interrupted by a VERY grumpy Vladimir, who blames Quintin for Edwina being angry at Simon, which is why he thinks Magda won’t take him to the committee meetings. Magda thinks Edwina should be at the meetings, since she helped with the rocket, but Edwina says no…she wasn’t invited…and even if she was, she wouldn’t go.
Workin’ 9 to 5
At her new job, Marina is overworked and underappreciated…and then told they like good attitudes around there and isn’t she a professional? Dude…don’t even.
Chucho did indeed decorate a coffee can so the guys can collect money to get Marina out of her contract. Rafa works on collecting money and guess which hothead doesn’t want to chip in? He accuses Rafa of wanting her to come back for [muted]. Your guess is as good as mine.
Marina is grateful to the guys for taking up a collection, but between that and what she has saved up it’s barely a third of the penalty. Rafa offers to pretend to be a lawyer and maybe he can get her boss to let her out of her contract.
Speaking of hardly working
Hothead jerkface Ramon goes out for a beer alone (because no one likes him!) and is thrilled to see Quique drinking with a friend (because he has friends!) and even more thrilled to be able to get a recording on his cell phone of Quique and friend talking about how Rafa is the love of Quique’s life. See, Ramon, this is why no one likes you.
Speaking of people nobody likes
Isa’s ready to go to her dad’s office tomorrow to start working. Nat thinks this is a terrible idea and she’s hurt that Isa won’t listen to her, but still offers to fix them both a salad.
Isa grudgingly eats the salad that Nat thoughtfully prepared and takes a call from Antonio where she lies to him that she’s not ready to deal with the business yet, but ok, fine she’ll meet him at 9am tomorrow. Nat asks why she lied. Isa: “What part of ‘Stay out of it.’ don’t you understand?” Nat goes to bed without even finishing her salad while Isa angry-gloats about having Antonio by the…uh, I mean, in her hands.
As if she hasn’t already been through enough
Sebastian finds Nat out on the street somewhere and asks if she’s really marrying Marcelo. She talks about how great he is and how she doesn’t really want to share him. Sebas wants a proper goodbye and Nat obliges with a searing kiss that is unfortunately photographed by a mystery person. She tearfully says “Goodbye,” and walks away.
At the door of her father’s company, the chauffeur hands Isa a folder full of papers that were left in the car. As she’s thinking she needs to destroy them, Antonio calls her name and she drops them all over the place, giving us a good look at her shoes in the process. I could be wrong, but I think I’m looking at some high lace-up boots with the tongue ripped out. Eventually it’s all collected (by the chauffeur for some reason) and Isa stomps up to her dad’s office, with Antonio following in her wake.
Up in her father’s office, Isa fakes anguish for Antonio’s benefit (hey, I’m just calling it like I see it) and begs him to take her hand…for strength. The secretary brings in a couple of coffees for them and Antonio gets right to business, but Isa whines she’s not ready. She has to look over everything before she can make a decision. After listening to her excuses for way too long, he tells her to take her time. Fake whiney Isa: “I’ll be in touch.”
I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night
Rafa and Marina meet with Marina’s boss. Rafa pulls out a little legalese and gets the guy to hand over the contract. Rafa pulls out a little more legalese and HR-ese and intimidates the crooked boss, who would rather rip up the contract and let Marina go than have to face a court battle where he’d have to explain why he’s breaking a bunch of labor laws. As they leave he calls her a “maldita vieja” (damn bitch) and I want to reach through the TV and smack him.
Back at CONATROL SG, Marina brags to Sara about how her “lawyer” got her out of the contract and Sara is happy to get Marina back behind her nice, organized desk with her happy blue chair. Antonio is happy to hear Marina’s voice when he calls the office and tells her to never leave again…she’s the soul of CONATROL SG (you said it, dude!). He still doesn’t know when he’s coming back, but hopefully soon.
Sebas comes into his office and gets the news about Marina. Antonio tells Sebas he’ll just have to wait for Isa to be ready before he can take care of the debt. His dad’s doing better, but he keeps insisting he didn’t take the money. They still haven’t told him about Guillermo’s death. Sebas offers to help in any way he can…hey, he was saving up to marry Natalia and that’s not going to happen now. Antonio says it still won’t be enough, but Sebas offers to put him in contact with a friend who’s an economist, Uriel Santana.
The Rafa-Ramon showdown
Rafa and Sara are taking a tour of CONATROL SG to return everyone’s money. Nelson says they should use it to throw a “Welcome Back” party. They hear Ramon and his buds laughing and oh crap, here we go…Ramon plays the recording of Quique from last night. Quique went on to say that Rafa always wanted to keep things quiet so he wouldn’t lose his authority at the plant, but he was apparently lying because there’s another gay guy in management.
Pepe, Nelson, and Sara all look a little confused…but also a little not confused. Sara tells Ramon to shut up, but Ramon says Rafa should at least have the guts to admit he’s a “vil” (vile) [muted]. I think we can all guess that one, even if I can’t tell what the exact word was.
So Rafa says yep, he’s homosexual. And he’s not a vile [muted]. And Ramon is nobody to be questioning him…no one has the right to question him. His private life is none of their business and he’s just as much man as any of them. If his “preferences” bother them, it’s their problem. He’s proud of himself and he’s never been disrespectful to any of them. He’s done nothing but support them through good and bad. None of them can complain about him. As for Ramon, “I warned you yesterday that if you messed with me again, you’d find out who I am.” He slugs Ramon across the face and then asks the guys who’s going to turn him in for assaulting another employee on company property. “How about you, Ramon? Are you going to go tell everyone a gay guy laid you out flat? Get your asses back to work!” (Okay, I added the “asses” part. I felt it was strongly implied.) Ramon gets up and tries to get up in Rafa’s face, but maybe, finally, he knows when he’s been beat.
Now Rafa turns back to face Nelson and Pepe. And of course they’re still friends! Everybody shakes hands. No, pues, como dice el dicho…I love those guys! The gang gather around Marina’s desk where she hugs Rafa and tells them of COURSE she knew. She knows everything that happens around there. She even knows what they get up to when they’re not at work. For instance…who’s the guy in the truck who sometimes picks up Nelson? “Um, a family member.” She hears that Rafa slugged Ramon and I’m surprised she’s not upset at him for not being there to see it. She shows off her mad boxing skillz.
A boy and his rocket
Vladimir gives Fidel the same grumpy attitude he gave his aunt yesterday. Magda explains why he’s angry and Fidel is glad she’s not letting him go to the rocket meeting/test. He goes off to work and she calls out to Vladimir that she’s hopping in the shower. Uh oh…I think I know where this is headed.
Sure enough, Vlad gets his backpack on and heads out the front door at just about the time Magda is coming out of her room and deciding that he probably went back to sleep. She decides to make him breakfast before waking him up again.
At the elementary school, they’re all set up for the committee meeting/evaluation/inquisition, whatever this is. Even Juancho can’t be there. He’s going back to the warehouse so Simon can call him, just in case he forgot anything.
Serena, et al, arrive and she gives him an encouraging look. Maybe a little too encouraging. That rocket already has a name, Serena. IfyouknowwhatImean. AndIthinkyoudo.
At the police station, Quintin tells Fidel he wants to take Edwina on vacation for a couple of days, but Fidel vetoes that plan! Magda calls crying, saying that Vladimir is missing.
Simon starts his presentation by talking about his education with Profe Cariego. He’s been planning this rocket since his senior year in the program, but he was interrupted by an invitation to go to France and then a personal problem. Vlad sneaks in as he’s explaining how he turned the rocket into a personal project. He is asked to talk about the instrumentation inside the cabin and orange shirt guy, who is probably Arce, starts making faces and scribbling.
The inquisition continues. Simon is planning to take just one lap around the earth before he comes back down. He’s getting into some technical details as they hear the sirens start. Vlad knows what’s up. Simon just keeps explaining…but Fidel storms in asking where his son is. Quintin finds him hiding a corner. Fidel blames it all on Simon and they get into a big shouting match, much to Arce’s delight. Serena can’t get them to shut up and Fidel turns on the committee, saying they’re just helping Simon disturb the peace in town. Profe Cariego’s all “Hey, have some respect! This is SCIENCE!” You tell him, Profe! Fidel says the rocket will never fly and Arce gloats some more. Serena finally gets him to leave, but Arce says everyone’s concentration has been broken. They’ll resume tomorrow.
Outside, Fidel scolds Vlad for sneaking off and disobeying his mother. “No se vale!” (No fair!) Vlad whines, but Fidel didn’t find it terribly fair on his end, either. Vlad’s going to have to collect all his toys and have them stashed in Fidel’s room.
I’d like to fire Marcelo for having his cell phone on set with the ringer turned on, but I guess that’s not up to me. He gets the call about the photo of Nat and Sebas and begs his contact to keep it from hitting the press.
These corporate guys are a buncha gossips!
The skeevy board member who likes Ric gets manipulated into telling the other board member whose name I can never remember that they have a strong suspicion about the mole at CONATROL HQ. Skeevy board member thinks he’ll score points with the other board member if he tells him.
Skeevy board member finds the other board member in the hallway and drops the “they know who the informant is” bomb, just like Ric wanted.
The, now very grumpy, board member confronts Uribe about not telling him everything that’s been going on with catching the saqueadores. He complains that if this was so secret, he shouldn’t have been hearing about it in the hallway. (Um, dude, how was the fact that he heard about it in the hallway not a red flag to Uribe?) Uribe calls Antonio and Sebastian in to explain to him.
We all know the explanation, so I’ll skip that part. Grumpy board member is grumpy that they’re acting like spies and not petrochemical company employees! He wants the informant thrown in jail NOW!
Meanwhile, back in Ric’s office, Skeevy board member brags to Ric that he told Grumpy board member and now Antonio and Sebas are in trouuuuuuble!
We all know Antonio and Sebastian’s arguments, so I’ll skip that part. Grumpy (jackass) board member uses Antonio’s shooting as evidence that he has no clue what he’s doing. Antonio admits it was his fault for not taking his bodyguards everywhere. Sebastian points out they now know even more about how the saqueadores operate. Grumpy board member says until the informant is in jail, he won’t approve any of their plans.
Once he’s gone, Uribe says that while he agrees with Grumpy, he doesn’t think they can stop their plan. Sebastian needs to go back to San Gaspar, Antonio needs to go see his dad, and Uribe needs to wait for Grumpy to calm down.
Isa behaves predictably
Isa meets with the head of the company’s legal department. He hadn’t heard the results of the audit, so she tells him the (fake) results and says she wants Eduardo thrown in jail, and she’s not willing to show him any mercy.
