La Vecina, Tuesday 2/9/16 #162

I only half paid attention today, but I took passable notes on what I half saw.

Anto takes offense that Sara would accuse him of harassment. He’s never harassed her! She doesn’t want to take a penny from him. She tells him that he’s just trying to make her dependent on him and feel superior to her. Anto wants Sara to quit. Sara suggests he talk to Uribe about that. That sort of shuts up Anto.

Outside the door, Marina eavesdrops on the argument. She and Sebas kind of blame Rafa for coming up with a lame story. When Rafa tries to throw the blame back on Marina for telling Sara he doesn’t have a Tía Edu-algo, Marina fires back. She had no idea why Sara was asking about Rafa’s family!

Sara and Anto continue on the way out to her jeep. He’s coming with her to 3 Piedras.

I’m pretty sure that Elias and Anselmo are planning to scalp tickets to the charity boxing match. Pedro comes out and puts Anselmo in charge of watching Laura. Elias is to go with Pedro.

Teodoro talks to the doctor about Lucita. He offers him money to certify that Lucita is not in her right mind. There’s a throat that needs to be punched.

Nat and Isa met for lunch. Isa played nice. Did I already mention that I only paid half attention? I’m pretty sure my notetaking took a break too. Isa is fake nice and blabbity blahs about being desperate for a reconciliation with Anto. I kind of wonder what Nat is thinking at this point because she’s seen those audit papers.

On the road to 3 Piedras, Anto grabs the wheel trying to avoid an accident. He says something about protecting her or something and she throws some shade saying that if he really felt that way, he wouldn’t have done what he did to her.

Padre V needs the local gimnasio for the boxing event. After a rehash of the situation with the bank and Simon’s farm, the owner agrees.

Lucita’s kids discuss Lucita and the plan with the doctor(?) Brats.

Sebas calls Titina and gets her mom instead. Of course Titina is right there listening. Mom offers to take a message. When Titina hears he’s not going to rent the apartment, she flips and demands to know why. Sebas explains he found out her little scam about the rent. Mom hears this and is none too pleased with her daughter. Ha! Wait until she finds out that Titina is lying about being pregnant. I wrote down the phrase “una de cal y otra de arena” (which faithful WordReference says is “one good and one bad”, “the bitter with the sweet” and “life has its ups and downs”.) Sebas said it as he hung up the phone.

Sara and Anto stop to figure out exactly where they are. Sara stops to explain that the town used to be called San Somebody de la Bonanza but they found some stone artifacts and it become 3 Piedras. Folks in the area always have a reason for what they are doing, despite what Anto thinks. All he wants right now is for her to smile. They are being followed by Aparicio.

Padre V and Bruno go back to the parish house and tell Rodobaldo that they’ve gotten the use of the gym for the fight. Rodo is going to start publicizing and spreading the word.

Anselmo hears from Aparicio that Sara and Anto are together. He calls Pedro. Pedro wants Aparicio to give them a good scare. Anselmo passes along the message.

Meanwhile, Anto and Sara are discovering that there is no local police force to protect them while they talk to the community. Sara forgot to find out. Anto wants to go back to San Gasp, but Sara wants to do her job.

Pedro is on some errand and Elias has a few minutes to himself. He convinces Anselmo to leave his post guarding Laura so they can discuss their money-making scalping venture.

Edwina gets in touch with Lucita. She doesn’t have any Simon news, but she’s got a lead in the Gulf of Panay. She’s going to meet with a guy to see if he can take her there and search.

Since Anselmo has left his post, Laura calls Bruno and asks him to meet her at a café.

At 3 Piedras, Sara starts her speech about needing community help. All they need is for the people of 3 Piedras to help them catch the saqueadores. Report any strange activities. Take note of licence plates. Conatrol is there to help them. They would like the people to participate in a survey so they can find out their most immediate needs. A school and lights are mentioned. Sara encourages the people to feel free to call Conatrol and talk to ingeniero Andrade personally. Anto gives a little speech too.

Laura shares her fears with Bruno. She thinks Pedro might be involved in some shady dealings with saqueadores or Conatrol. Bruno confirms that they suspect Pedro is the leader of the saqueadores. Laura thinks they never told her because the suspected her (that’s kind of true, right? It’s been a while.) Bruno says they didn’t say anything in order to protect her. They move on to declarations of love. Bruno would give up everything for her, but they will have to keep things secret until they catch Pedro.

At 3 Piedras, Aparicio fires a gun into the air. The crowd runs. Aparicio points the gun at Sara and Anto. Anto throws himself in front of Sara. He gets shot. Again. Luckily it just grazes his arm.

Edwina meets with Crocodile Dundee and gives him a list of the things they will need to find Simon. It’s going to cost a bunch of money. Edwina will need to call Lucita. She gets Tadeo. He makes up some story about Lucita bathing.

Aparicio calls Anselmo and tells him that things may have gotten a little out of control Anselmo will need to call Pedro. Elias thinks Anselmo should keep his mouth shut. Anselmo knows it will be worse for him if he doesn’t.

When Anselmo finally tells Pedro, I am kid of surprised that Pedro seemed unaffected by the news. In fact, Pedro seemed pleased. Pedro asks if Laura is still in the house; Anselmo lies and tells him yes.

Anto managed to get the gun away from Aparicio. He’ll turn it in to the police in San Gasp. Sara is very glad that it wasn’t a serious injury. She wants to know why Anto went after the guy. Anto can’t believe she has to ask. He had to protect her.

Bruno drops off Laura. She can’t believe she was so blind for so long. She has no idea how she’s going to face Pedro. She figures out that the night Pedro took her to dinner, he was just using her as an alibi. Pedro knew there was a trap. She offers to be ears and eyes for Bruno and the police. They have her help and her testimony. They promise that the next time they see each other, it will be forever. They smooch and personally, I thought there was too much emphasis on Bruno’s “cuídate”. Now I’m nervous as hell, but the whole Pedro/Laura/Bruno thing has been filling me with dread for a while.

Edwina calls Tadeo multiple times and gets all kinds of excuses (she’s praying, she’s getting a pedicure.) Edwina knows Tadeo is trying to keep them from talking. Edwina is going to keep trying. Crocodile Dundee is about to give up and meet another client, but Edwina talks him into waiting ten more minutes.

Anselmo catches Laura coming in the front gate. He tries to be threatening, but Laura turns it around. What would Pedro do if he found out Anselmo left his post? Hmmm?

Ric is in the San Gasp. He calls Isa. Isa is out shopping with Nat. She asks Nat to hold her phone while she tries on a dress. Nat sees the compromising text from “Rita Suarez” not Isa. Nat confronts Isa and then walks away.

After Edwina’s last call, Lucita comes out to the living room and Tadeo makes up a story about who it was. Lucita asks him to make her ___, but he comes back with café and says she asked for ____. Café and leche were said a lot. He’s clearly messing with her head and since I wasn’t paying close attention, he ended up messing with mine. Brat. The phone rings and Lucita picks up. It’s Edwina. She needs more funds. Lucita agrees. So a total of 80 mil dolares will be transferred to Edwina (wow, that much? I must have gotten that wrong.) Tadeo pitches a fit. Padre V rings the doorbell. Lucita asks Padre to come to the bank with her.

The police escort finally comes to pick up Anto and Sara. She wants to keep going out to communities, but Anto refuses to let her.

We end the episode with Isa and Ric heavy breathing and horn-dogging. Ew. She mumbles something about Nat getting the text. Ric mumbles something about that not being his problem. I definitely didn’t pay close attention to this scene!

Gracias, Sara! What? Ric was in this episode? Isa who? I could have sworn it was nothing but Antonio and Sara riding around in the jeep like old times. The brain is so good at protecting us from unpleasant things :p

Yes, exactly! I wanted a repeat of the first road trip weekend. Or at least some honest conversation! Every day he doesn’t tell Sara about Pedro I get more annoyed with him. To the point that if I had to pick one admission, i would rather he tell her that than tell her about Isabel’s blackmail. Not knowing about Isa doesn’t affect her safety. And you’re right, the guys did at one time question whether Laura knew/was in on Pedro’s shady business dealings. It was like the day they found out Pedro was abusing her…they couldn’t wrap their heads around… Read more »

Yep. All the guys, Bruno included, questioned Laura’s motives and her knowledge of Pedro’s crimes at first. Each and every scene with Laura and Bruno makes me nervous. I was glad she threatened Anselmo back, but I’m guessing he’s going to keep a closer eye on her from now on.

I’m always aware of whatever is in the background when Bruno and Laura are together and any sort of movement makes me jumpy! Every person, every car, I think “This is it! They’re about to get caught!”

Me too! And I kept thinking yesterday, isn’t a café kind of a public spot to meet ?

Yes! And doesn’t everybody know Pedro, and therefore Laura?

Thanks, Sara!
I’m thinking you remembered a heck of a lot.
“Lucita’s kids discuss Lucita and the plan with the doctor(?) Brats.” These are the characters who make me go “Grrrr” the most. I remember the scene where Tadeo asks the doctor hopefully, ” Is she dead?”
Can’t wait for the kids’ anvils.
Titina still makes me laugh.

Every time he said the word “fortuna,” my foot twitched.

Oh that’s where I saw him, no wonder I wasn’t really disliking him till recently. I used to feel sorry for him because Lucita was always ordering him around. He deserved it.

I guess he’s just the one of the kids that’s the best at pretending to go along with her. Maybe he thought that would get him a bigger share.

Muchas gracias, Sarita!! You covered all the important points. Why hasn’t Nat ratted out Isabel yet to Sabas and Antonio about her thing with Ric? Why’s she even giving her the time of day anymore? Yeah, I too want Tonio to at least tell Sara about Pedro. Not telling her has just put her in deeper danger. Tonio needs to just shut up about how much he cares about her. If he’s not going to come clean about at least one of the two secrets, then this kind of talk is just messing with Sara’s head and heart and yanking… Read more »

I’m pretty sure the auditor violated his professional code of ethics, at the very least. Maybe Isa would also be on the hook for commissioning a crime. And if she has anything like a board of directors, they might be able to call for her resignation.

Thanks Sara
Yeah I think I started reading something else when Isa and Ric had their encounter, so you got more than I did

I think the problem w/Lucita’s kids is they are already thinking of that money as theirs. Well it isn’t, and I hope it never is

Oh, yeah, they totally think it’s all theirs, the little brats. I hope she’s already made out a will leaving it all to the church. It would serve them right. And also I would find it amusing 😀

I’m surprised they didn’t just tell Lucita about the bank wanting their money back. But then we wouldn’t have this whole boxing thing going on.
