La Vecina, Thursday 2/18/16 #167

I really hate when they start the episode with Isa and Ric. It just sets the tone, ya know? Isa whines about cabin fever and feeling cooped up. She talks Ric into going out to a bar for drinks.

It just so happens they end up at the same place where Sara’s tasting event is. I call that delicious! Sara sees the two of them boldly canoodling and snaps a few pics on her phone for posterity.

Eduardo is back home. Ema’s dress is gorgeous. She doesn’t deserve it. Eduardo wonders where Anto is. Mariana thinks maybe Isa didn’t pass along the message. Ema can’t believe Isa would do that. Eduardo wants Ema to shut her pie hole. Anto has done plenty for the family.

Laura manages to get to Pedro’s phone (Ah!! That was the reason they were careful to show us his charging phone! It was an unattended phone alert.) She calls Bruno and weeps with relief. He’s still alive. (Recapper gettin’ analytical alert: Please note the juxtaposition of Isa’s whining about being cooped up and Laura’s situation. Well played, show.) Bruno asks Laura where she is. All she tells him is that Pedro took her to some cabin. Pedro comes out from the bedroom and calls for Laura. I just hope all finger movement was her erasing the call from the history. She claims she was looking for something to eat. Pedro will go get some food.

In the Philippines, one of Edwina’s search team members reports that some fisherman saw something falling from the sky west of their current location. They will have to change their original route.

Simon is attended by a French-speaking doctor in some tent. Simon is responding well to the antihistamine. The French speaker who found Simon hopes that he wakes up soon. L’homme français wonders if Simon’s appearance has anything to do with the recent “avistamiento“(sighting.)

Pedro talks to that other saqueador. All I remember is Pedro gettin’ cocky. He’s in control. He’s got Andrade under control. Pedro can do whatever the hell he wants.

Anto comes back to his apartment.

Laura keeps trying to get the door open. She goes to the bathroom and there’s lots of noise and crashing. She comes out with (I presume) the shower curtain rod. Or a rod of some sort. She’s about to start hitting the door when another idea occurs to her. She looks thoughtfully at this rod and puts it under the bed. Oooohhh. I do not like this one bit.

Magda fills Fidel in on her little investigation. There is something fishy going on with Lucita’s children. What was that doctor doing at that house. Fidel doesn’t seem concerned. Lucita is an older woman. She could be getting senile. (Oh Fidel, I am giving you my stinkiest eye.) Magda disagrees. Lucita is más cuerda (sane) than anyone. It must have something to do with Lucita financing the search for Simon. Fidel thinks maybe they should offer to pay Lucita back. He doesn’t want the kids to think Edwina is taking advantage. Magda wonders where he’ll come up with 800,000 pesos. Fidel promises to look into things.

OMG! I’ve got two eyes so here’s another of my stinkiest for you, Dr. Unethical. They’ve got Lucita sedated and strapped (strapped!) to a bed. Dr. Unethical hands over a document certifying that Lucita isn’t mentally fit so the kids can give it to the lawyer. Dr. Unethical then hints around about his *ahem* consulting fee. The daughter promises to talk to Tadeo. He’ll give the doctor a little “adelantito” (deposit/advance)

Anto sees Sara in the hallway coming back from the tasting. He needs to talk to her. She thinks it’s about his marital issues. He’s got far more important things to finally(!) tell her. Pedro is the head of the saqueadores (which I finally looked up and wordreference.com says is “looter” which is even less apt a word than “rustler.”) Pedro has planted a ducto in El Molcajete. Pedro has been planning very carefully to make Sara look like one of the saqueadores in order to twist Antonio’s arm and force him to cooperate. Sara of course wants Antonio to fight Pedro. Anto is not going to leave Sara unprotected and let them put Sara in jail. He’ll do anything to protect her. He’s already made the deal with Pedro. Sara wishes Anto had said something earlier. She would have done all she could to get out of her obligations with Pedro. Anto explains about Rafa. Sara didn’t like how it looked more like Anto was trying to obligate her to HIM. Anto had every intention of getting Sara out of danger and THEN telling her about Pedro. But everything got out of hand. He tried to protect her but he failed. Sara hugs him and tells him that they will get through this and figure a way out….together.

Isa and Ric snog…FF until he pulls a cell phone out of his pocket. It’s Pedro. Pedro tells him that Anto is going to do everything they say. Isa hears Ric mention Antonio. Ric is sure Anto won’t cooperate, but Pedro explains how they set up Sara. Technically, she’s as much a saqueadora as Pedro is. All Isa hears is Ric saying “there’s no way Sara stole gasoline.”

Anto fills in Sara about Nelson being a mole. Sara also worries that Uribe will think she’s guilty as well. Antonio is going to convince Uribe that she is just as much a victim. Sara trusts Antonio…in some things. Anto asks Sara to close El Molcajete. She’ll say they are fumigating. She wants to talk to Fidel but Anto puts the kibosh on that idea since he sort of ignored Fidel’s instructions. Anto wants Sara to leave San Gaspar if things go bad. He doesn’t want Sara going to jail. They promise each other to take care of themselves. Anto calls Sebas and tells him to come to the apartment.

Outside her apartment, Sara looks at the pictures she took of Isa. With their conversation about Pedro, Sara forgot to show them to Anto. Could it be he already knows about Isa and that’s why the marriage is a sham? If he doesn’t know, is it Sara’s place to tell him?

*seethe* I hate Isa. She takes the overheard conversation to mean that Sara really is one of Pedro’s crew and that’s why Sara was soooo into Anto and after him night and day. *seethe*

Sebas gets ready to go see Anto, but he can’t really tell Natalia why.

Padre Vicente comes by to ask Fidel for extra security at the gym for the boxing event. Fidel is miffed that he wasn’t asked to come in the first place and tells Padre V that most of the officers are on vacay and won’t be able to help. Padre V has to apologize for forgetting to ask Fidel and offer 3 free, ring-side tickets to the event. Fidel agrees to help.

Sara tells Bruno he can stop being secretive around her. She knows all about Pedro.

Sebas arrives at Antonio’s apartment. Anto tells his friend all about Pedro’s evil plan and having to tell Sara about it. Sebas wants to know what they are going to do…because Sebas is all in. Anto is going to have to talk to Uribe and cover Sara. If it doesn’t work she’ll have to leave the country. Sebas wishes Anto luck and leaves. Anto calls the airlines and books a flight to the DF.

The next day, Anto calls Uribe from the San Gasp airport. He needs to talk to him ASAP about something important. Uribe agrees to meet with him.

*seethe* Isa calls Uribe. She tells him that she has some interesting information on Sara Granados: She’s one of the saqueadores! My rage is only slightly mollified by the fact that Uribe seems more annoyed at Isa than actually credulous of what she’s saying, but still….*seethe*

Simon regains consciousness and asks where he is. L’homme français tells him where he is and is shocked to hear Simon was the one in the rocket.

Edwina calls Magda. Magda fills Edwina in on the search for Lucita and Edwina fills Magda in on the search for Simon.

Fidel stakes out Lucita’s house. He sees the daughter and the niece come out. The daughter drives away and Fidel approaches the niece. He asks about Lucita. They’ve now combined stories. Lucita went to Huatusco and will then go to the US. Fidel tells the niece he wants to repay some of the money Lucita donated for the search. He asks the niece to pass along the message. After she walks away, he mumbles about taking the bait.

Merce and Juancho head back home. *sniff*

Simon tells a campfire story. He explains about the rocket landing and the trajectory being wrong. He mentions thinking it wasn’t that big a deal. As he entered the atmosphere, he saw a bright light and heard things hitting the rocket. There was an explosion…that changed the trajectory. He came back into the zone where he could communicate…but he doesn’t remember anything after that. He doesn’t even know how he got out of the rocket. The Frenchman explains that the fruit that Simon ate was “el pepinillo del diablo” (aka as erm “the squirting cucumber”) and it’s poisonous. Simon is lucky to be alive. Simon thinks he’s lucky they found him. They explain that they are exploring the islands. When they were out, they found the remains of Simon’s SOS message and went looking for him.

The niece tells Tadeo about Fidel wanting to pay back the money. Tadeo thinks it’s a trap. Maybe Fidel is just wanting to return the money so Lucita won’t feel foolish for financing the search. The sobrina reminds Tadeo that not only do Magda and Fidel want to to talk to Lucita, so does Padre V. We are forced to suffer through a scene in which Tadeo calls Padre V and pretends to be Lucita. (He’s pretty good.) Tadecita tells Padre she’ll be travelling and enjoying life.

Simon wants to use the communication equipment to call his family. Unfortunately it was ruined in the last storm. They will have to wait for the other crew to bring back a new set up from Manila.

Ugh. Titina is suing Sebas for defamation and blah blah blah. She’s asking for a million and a half pesos.

Fin.

Gracias, Sara! What a nail-biter of an episode. The fruit is called what?! Oh, they’re sooooo messing with us! I do not want Laura to have to become a murderer to get away from Pedro. Hasn’t she been through enough already? I was hoping she’d find something to use to pop the pins out of the door hinges, but, uh, that curtain rod or whatever’s not gonna do it. I hope wherever Simon is, it’s along Edwina’s path. And I’m glad he got found by some decent guys. I loved the campfire scene and the one guy being all excited…”Best… Read more »

Yeah! I was screaming at my screen, go for the hinges! Go for the HINGES! (they never hear me no matter how I scream) Too bad no telenovela heroine has ever installed a door 😉

Thanks Sara!
So when Laura came out of the bathroom with that rod and then put it under the bed, I had visions of her bashing Pedro over the head with it while he slept. If only it were a little heftier…

If she takes his phone and the car keys and locks him in, it could work. Though, she also might be able to take the keys and lock him in without having to risk whacking him and not knocking him out in one blow. As long as Elias or Anselmo isn’t out there with them and they left the truck, at least she won’t be walking around in the dark.

Thank you, Sara!

I was so glad Tonio finally told Sara about Pedro. See Tonio, that wasn’t so hard. And think how much easier it would have been had you told her BEFORE Pedro framed her for gasoline rustling?! Ack!

I ditto all the worry for Laura and the shower rod. I just don’t see any hand to hand combat between her and Pedro going well. She needs something much smaller and really heavy.

Glad to see Nat trusting Sebas. Loved that top she was wearing in the last scene.

Was there a lamp in that room? Not to advocate any further violence, but if she’s going to do it anyway, it would make a better weapon than the curtain rod.

Somehow, I can’t picture Laura doing that. Lamp to the head and run for it, though.

Been a crazy week? however long, I keep getting these calls late at night, ‘can you fill in for somebody else and drive 50 mi to pick up something tomorrow on top of what you were already doing?’ – and I say yes b/c who else is gonna? So long story slightly less long, my tn watching schedule is all messed up and I’m behind, but Thanks Sara for the recap, and yesterday’s (oh my brain, I mean last Tues) I’m seething at Isa too! Also, Tonio telling ProtaSara about Pedro finally is not as satisfying as I expected, maybe… Read more »

Well, I’m not creeped out, and now that I’m only watching one thing I hope I’ll be around to be “seen” more
