José José: The Specials

There are two specials being aired on Telemundo in the lead-up to the premiere of the José José bionovela, series, whatevertheywanttocallit that starts on Monday January 15 at 8pm/7c.

Nuestros Ídolos: José José airs at 1pm/12c on Saturday, January 13 (there’s a possible repeat on Sunday at 5pm/4c)

Sin Filtro: José José airs at 7pm/6c on Monday, January 15, 1 hour before the premiere.

Gracias to Linda F. for calling these to our attention!

I’ll open this up now so we can talk about the specials or José José in general. The spoiler-averse might want to skip this post 🙂

Author: 5ftLatina

Kat is 5ftLatina. She is really 5' tall (and probably shrinking) and Latina. She is not actually a cactus, but she is both prickly and cute. Mr. 5ft is actually married to Kat, but is not 5' tall or Latina. He is also not a form of plant life.

I’ve got the DVR set!

I really don’t know much about José José beyond the fact that Cristian Castro did a tribute album of covers that was being advertised back when I first started watching telenovelas. I can’t wait to watch the specials!

I’m watching today’s special now. It’s your typical A&E Biography type special. I’m loving every minute of it 🙂

Aw! Armando Manzanero! His opening song was one of my favorite things about Quiero Amarte. Apparently he helped José José at the start of his career. I don’t remember seeing anyone who was supposed to be him when I watched the first episode. I’ll pay more attention when I watch again on Monday.

In light of the above comments I am just clarifying that it was the Telemundo special I watched. 🙂

Well. It doesn’t look like the series is going to be all roses if this special is any indication. Still glad I watched for context.

They mentioned that he wrote his autobiography. Of course I had to look it up on Amazon. Of course it’s only available from third party sellers for large sums of money.

Wow, JJ’s three kids have spectacular voices! I just watched the premier of “Suelta la Sopa VIP” (will air once a week on Sunday night), and his kids were there to comment on JJ’s health and their family ties. At the end of the interview, the three sing one after another, and they sound amazing. Genes don’t lie! Here’s the segment:

In the video link I just posted above, the part where JJ’s kids sing doesn’t arrive until the 13-minute mark, but the earlier part of the interview is still interesting. This is not a situation where the kids talk trash about their dad–it’s moving to hear what they think of him.

It really was refreshing to see an interview with the kids that didn’t look for dirt. One of the interviewers even made a comment about journalists saying the kids didn’t get along and here they all were being very supportive of each other. I liked that.

And WOW those voices! José José songs do not strike me as easy to sing. They did a great job.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Mexican singing duo Jesse & Joy (brother and sister), but Sarita (José’s youngest daughter) reminds me of Joy. Here’s a picture of Jesse & Joy:

Whaaa? I subscribe to the threads I’m on and I didn’t see a picture. When I got the notification about Kat’s comment I actually clicked to the thread..

THIS IS SO COOL! I want to know how!

I was more surprised than anyone when the image showed up in my post! All I did was paste a URL, but I thought you’d have to click on the URL and bring up a new page to see the image I’d specified. Lo and behold, it magically appeared in the post.

Took me a while, but I figured it out.

What? Surely everyone knew I *had* to try it.

I’m finally getting around to watching the Jose Jose sin filtro special. Itatí Cantoral is the daughter of Roberto Cantoral who wrote El Triste?! I had no idea. I feel stupid.
