Margarita’s a grandma now. JJ’s ready to marry Anel, but will it be good for his career?

Kat is 5ftLatina. She is really 5' tall (and probably shrinking) and Latina. She is not actually a cactus, but she is both prickly and cute. Mr. 5ft is actually married to Kat, but is not 5' tall or Latina. He is also not a form of plant life.

It’s no surprise that I’m behind and only up to last Thursday. So much happening. I didn’t have captions for Tuesday’s episode so I’m a little lost with Lola and the reporter (dang why have I forgotten his name.) I’m getting to dependent on the captions. Why is it I don’t feel like I need them for other shows?

I really do like Gonzalo. The toaster scene was very sweet. Please to let Lore be gone for good 🙁

Sara, I’m having the same issue. Can get by fairly easily without captions on Muro and especially Secretos (dubbed voices are always clear), but really need them for José José. My impression is that JJ is shot more like a film than a TV show, and film dialog is always harder for me to hear clearly.

Right??? I’m fine on Muro and Secretos. You’re right about dubbed programs, which for years I hated watching…OH! The shows I’ve missed out on! The background music seems a little louder on JJ as well. Then there’s my own mental block. I have this crazy idea that if I don’t understand every.single.word then somehow I am a fraud of a Spanish teacher. Never mind that I barely understand the Liverpudlian accent of a coworker. *eyeroll at myself* Also, JJ is highly distracting to me. I get caught up trying to see everything. They’ve been so careful with the setting that… Read more »

I think the qualities about the show that you point out are what made me think of movie production values, rather than standard TV or novela. I do the same as you–savor the set design, the costumes, hair, etc. I can tell that I watch JJ much more closely than, say, Muro, even though I’m enjoying the latter. I’m hoping the upcoming Luis Miguel bio series will have the same attention to period design and detail. BTW, I can relate to your perfectionism regarding understanding the Spanish. I’m not a teacher, but I put the same pressure on myself about… Read more »

Ever since Hasta I’ve become a real bio series convert. I’m kicking myself for missing Hoy voy a cambiar.

I wish I could give myself a break in the Spanish dept.

Hasta and Hoy voy a cambiar were both outstanding!

Wow, I can’t get a handle on Pedro. His character shifts are hard to buy, unless the cocaine is making him go from good to bad and back again in an instant. I just hope Nora and Güera can stay clear of him.

Speaking of Güera, I like her more every day! Does anyone know if her character really existed? I’ve tried Googling, but no luck. Here’s a great picture of the actress on her wedding day:

Does anyone know who’s playing Alicia (Gonzalo’s novia)? I can’t find her in any cast list.

AWWWW! Thanks for sharing that picture. She looks so happy 😀

Ok. So Pedro *is* doing cocaine. I felt like I missed something. I don’t quite remember seeing him do it, but there was a sniff and a nose scratch in the last episode I watched. It was sketchy as all get out.

Yes, they apparently didn’t want to show the drug itself, but the way he lifted his face from the desk and make that comment and wiped his nose sure got the point across!

Who knows what else I was looking at right before he lifted his head. But yeah, that would explain his behavior for this episode. I don’t know about all the episodes before though. I’ve never been able to get a read on him or his motives.

“LuisGa”?! It’s interesting that they didn’t seem able to get the rights to use Juan Gabriel’s real name, even though they used the actual song he composed for JJ (“Lo pasado pasado”). Last week, Suelta la sopa interviewed Mexican singer, Aída Cuevas. She had a close relationship with JuanGa, even living in his home when they recorded together. Anyway, when she knew him well, he was very physically fit. She described him as athletic and dedicated to exercise, and always watchful of his diet. I think I’ve seen photos of him like that, but they never really showed him that… Read more »

I just got to that episode. I’m glad I had your heads up or I would have been confused by LuisGa and wasted a lot of google time.

I wish I knew enough about Mexican music to recognize some of the name dropping/changes.

Now that I’ve actually seen “LuisGa” all I can say is it made me miss Hasta que te conoci and if a novela drought comes up again (and it will) I’m glad I have my DVD now. 😀

That was a wise purchase! Definitely a novela that will hold up over time.

Okaaay. Wednesday thoughts no one asked me for….

Why is Maria so hung up on Gabriel? Has he not been sketchy enough????????

Did someone slip something in Ernesto Jr’s drink and that’s why he’s in the hospital and now Frenck is telling Gabo that Maria will have to take the fall? I’m a little confused.

I don’t even have words for Pedro. It’s so satisfying when Nora outsmarts him!

Flashbacks with Chumo. *sob*

I’ve gotten my days completely mixed up and I think I’m only up to Wednesday and really my last comments were about Tuesday. I’ll be more careful from now on. Maria trying to get rid of the Choir Boy was funny. “I like café con ron! I sin sometimes!” and all he wants is to take her away from the temptation. I understand Anel’s being angry at La Güera, but that does’t mean I have to be happy about it OR approve of her being snippy. I’m sure I’ve said multiple times that this is not *really* a bio series.… Read more »
