Kat is 5ftLatina. She is really 5' tall (and probably shrinking) and Latina. She is not actually a cactus, but she is both prickly and cute. Mr. 5ft is actually married to Kat, but is not 5' tall or Latina. He is also not a form of plant life.

I am so glad that both Rodrigo and Baldo confronted Jorge about Samuel. Jorge could have ended up dead. Samuel needs to be out of the house and in treatment after that stunt. He is a murderer in the making. Gladys and her outbursts make me laugh. At least Jorge gave Mauricio a heads up about Fabián, Falcón and board maybe hiding something. It was great seeing Nerón reconciled with his sons even if his dead wife’s portrait had to come along. That was funny.

Jorge is so perceptive in his role at Logatoys, but so blind to his own children. Sami is part of the iGen and studies are starting to show that they have higher depression rates. The Atlantic had an interesting and eye-opening article about it last August: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/09/has-the-smartphone-destroyed-a-generation/534198/ Rafa and Baldo are right that Sami needs help. I am assuming that while Tiburon Azul is a made up game, I’m sure it is based on real stuff that’s happening on the web. *cough* Tide Pods Challenge *cough*. THE PORTRAIT!! That was so hilarious. And Ciceron (?) helping his dad dedicate a… Read more »

I found the whole Samuel incident very disturbing and passing into the realm of creepy. They all better sleep with one eye open. For me it was way beyond depression and self-mutilation. It seems to be another PSA so it is probably reality based . As for the Tide Pods challenges . . . I cannot even go there. With another example of such stupid lemming behavior, it is a miracle the human race has made it to the 21st century. Yes, Norma Desmond getting reading for her closeup! Wonderful to see Carol Burnett again. Thanks for the link. As… Read more »

Of course I forgot to mention another thought about Sami because I got distracted by Carol Burnett and Nora….

Yup. Beyond creepy because up to this point the challenges were about self mutilation and no real choices. This time it was do this dangerous thing OR this thing that is dangerous to someone else…and specifically someone you hate. It’s escalating and the only people who seem to notice are people who aren’t even close to Sami. How blind is Jorge? And deaf…here’s law enforcement telling him “your child may need help” and Jorge is like sí…no *eyeroll*

Thinking of Samuel and Nerón on the floor, I would like a comedy like AcT with no real PSA’s. I am so tired of them. There is now a breast cancer scare even on Jane the Virgin. So, for me, the end of the season for that will be ruined. I like my tv shows to be more escapist. Well, I will get off my soap box and stop my rant for now. : )

I’m going to get on my soapbox, too. I hope you will still read my whole comment even though I am getting preachy and teacher-y myself. Culturally, PSAs are built into Mexican television. Como dice el dicho and LRDG are two of the most popular programs on Canal de las estrellas and they perform very well here, too. So I think in the US we can feel “preached to” and it’s just par for the course for a Mexican viewer. The After School Special type show tends to be the butt of a joke here. Also, there is still a… Read more »

Steps off soapbox.

That was really crappy of me to do. I completely undestand that feeling of wanting to sit down and enjoy something and having it take that “this isn’t fun anymore turn” and I should have acknowledged your feelings first. Mea culpa.

The breast cancer thing annoys the crap out of me too, for the reason I stated.

They are being heavy handed with a lot of thngs in PATM, but I guess since I sort of knew that going into it it hasn’t bothered me as much.

No “Mea Culpas”necessary. We all are on the soap box once in a while. I think that I am in just a mood today. I have always understood the reason for PSA’s, even in series here in the US like Jane, but it does not enhance the plot necessarily in comedies or even dramedies. There should be a way of doing PSA’s so they are not necessarily downers because that is how so many of them are played out. SdA was the absolute worst in that vein. Well, I just hope that they introduce, resolve and dispatch the numerous PSA’s… Read more »

Ha! For me it’s more like when am I NOT in a mood 😛 I wonder if they have started being MORE PSA-y because of the success of Como dice and LRDG. Maybe PSAs are so much more downer now because the got criticized for being too hopeful? I can totally see something like that happening. There’s “feel-good” and PSA and lately the lines do get really blurred. As for the PSAs in PATM I think it would have been better to stick with the same-sex couple. I think they are doing a good job of that without being too… Read more »

They sure use Como dice and LRDG whenever and wherever they need to so they must be popular. LRDG usually has a happy ending no matter what precedes LRDG’s intervention. They remind me of morality plays and are not unpleasant to watch since you know what you are getting into. I agree that I am enjoying their treatment of the same sex couple . As for Sami, they really need to do something with getting him help or they should not have taken his acting out to the length that they did. Yes, the autistic child was a one episode… Read more »

“Morality play” YES!

I really like that kind of story. I don’t watch either show very often, but every once in a while I get in the mood and record an episode.

We’re on the same page again because I wanted to ask about MMTF and forgot (It’s what I do…) Osorio loves the PSA chilche so I wondered if he used it for MMTF as well.

Another thing that makes some PSA’s hard to watch for me, is that at my age I have seen one too many people suffer and recover or not in real life from one too many illnesses or toxic situations.

PSAs never seem to reflect reality do they? Some shows do PSA better than others. Some PSA’s just add to the problem…like PSA–you’re doing it wrong.

Good episode tonight. Rodrigo and Rafael might have solved Renée’s money problem: they want to buy her house. Samuel is finally talking which is a good thing. Now get him to a mental health professional. Good news for Toño: he can work from home for Mauricio. I loved Jorge taking it upon himself to carry Kika off the Logatoys property. It looks like Renée has just started to explore the mystery of her father. Kika was truly evil hurting Anifer like she did. In the real world, I would be asking how a school would allow a “stranger” to see… Read more »

Oh yay!!! Renee has her financing…oooohhh, but but ….she needs to stay in the DF? Uh oh. What’s going to impede her leaving for the US? Will it be connected with the daddy mystery? I can’t wait to watch tomorrow (It’s my “you went to the grocery store” reward for myself.)

I can vouch that schools don’t just let anyone come see a child or check them out or anything. Things like that are like nails on a chalkboard for me.

*sigh* Why didn’t I remember my telenovela rules? I should have known that the truth about Anifer’s mom was going to be revealed in the worst way possible.

My cerebral hamster wheels are working overtime going through telenovela tropes and trying to decide if any of them will apply to Renee and the mystery of her father. Is he super rich. Is he at all connected to the Falcón business? That’s another mystery that’s driving me crazy.

And it is not over yet! Nerón has to go back for the dreaded exam.

As for Lili and Pablo: did they (when Flor took Anifer back home) or didn’t they? At least Pablo thought about finding a condom. Lili hadn’t even thought that far.

I only saw that little bit about Nerón’s prostate, but I’ll watch and see about Lili and Pablo tomorrow. If you predictio about a baby is correct then they did….

I think I’m going to start looking at the mini PSA’s as a running gag. It’s a horrible attitude to have, but it’s also horrible to do wrong by PSAs. That one was just way too awkward and didn’t feel like a natural part of the story. The breast feeding one was pretty good though.

Exactly. Here, they should have done more with Nerón’s heart problems and left the prostate stuff out.

Right. Make it part of the story or leave it alone. These little one off scenes (prostate health; autism) are almost insulting to the themes they are trying to highlight. Find one thing and do it well. And for all that this is supposed to be a show about changing attitudes, they are still holding men up as the heroes and in some cases throwing women under the bus (at least that’s what it looks like they are doing while I FF though Toño and Vero)….or I could be completely missing the point.

No, I do not think you are missing the point with Toño and Verónica. She is just acting like a man/father would act in a successful job but suddenly it seems like she is not nurturing enough of a mother . . . . or wife. . . Really? What is good for the goose . . .

Now that I’ve watched, I don’t think Pablo and Lili did anything.

Of course, now Jorge knows Pablo’s secret. Drat.

Despite spilling the beans about Maria, I think there’s hope for Kika. She shows remorse most of the time. She seemed really concerned when Mau and Renee came looking for Ani. Maybe she’ll be redeemed by the end of all this.

Maybe. Will she end up with Jorge “Georgie Boy”? He seemed quite smitten with her. Is Fabián’s father the mystery man? Interesting that he could be Renée’s father which would make her Fabián’s sister. Interesting twist. I loved hearing that Mauricio wanted to be a “Papá a toda madre”. I don’t know why but I always get a kick out of hearing the title in the novelas or really any show within the show. I still remember when the main protagonist in The Walking Dead said”We are the walking dead”. It doesn’t take much these days . I admit that… Read more »

I have no doubt Kika and Georgie boy will end up together. 1. Kenny G like music playing 2. Karma-she’s not a fan of kids and he’s got 4. Oh yes, Pablo was so funny talking about GOING OUT and NOT GOING OUT. Not subtle at all. Lol Thanks for the comment about Mystery Man. I had to resort to the Spanish captions and I’m still feeling a little confused about it. Renee didn’t seem to react much at the registry office, but then back at home she seemed to know that Noel C. was somehow connected to Fabian? So… Read more »

Very valid novela reasons for Kika and Jorge ending up together. You made me smile. Yes, it looks like we are both at the same point (not) understanding the whole Falcón/Falcón’s father’s plot. Guess we will just have to wait and see. There should be some interesting episodes this week. I am enjoying the quick pacing of this one very much. Yes, the Toys R Us story: sad times for retail if you aren’t Walmart or Amazon.

Good to see that Mauricio is realizing that something might be up with Fabián. Fabián and Falcón sure were chummy.Tania’s poor performance and Verónica and Toño’s reaction at the dance recital was the best part for me last night. Jorge should have been happy that Lili had a condom. If he thinks that she is going to not have sex just because he says so, he has a very unpleasant realization coming. I was sad that she and Pablo got caught on the security/spy cam. No turning back on that one. Gladys continues to entertain. Yes, she is important! You… Read more »

Jorge’s camera is kind of creepy to me. I guess there are parents that do that though. We have some parents who use an app to keep track of where their kids go.

To me it would be creepy if the kids had not violated Jorge’s trust so I am giving Jorge a pass. Frankly, with two unknown relatively hostile teenagers suddenly in his household and a depressed pre-teen susceptible to self-mutilation and hurting others, I think it is a smart move unless he were to get a nanny. Ultimately, Jorge is responsible for their well-being. I don’t know what I would do today as a parent if I had a child who might be putting her/himself at risk .

I can’t remember, when did he get the camera? It was before Baldo and Lili even showed up right? And long before Sami started hurting himself. I don’t remember Vale doing anything particularly awful. She snuck out, but hell I snuck out when I was a kid. I will concede that she was not driving the car carefully when she hit that guy…but she didn’t purposely set out to hurt anyone. I still stand by my words that Lili and Baldo are probably hostile because Jorge isn’t showing an ounce of compassion to them. Look how dunderheaded he was with… Read more »

I’m not sure how to explain it, but CET felt a lot more realistic. The little I saw the parents were clueless about what Mia was up to. Maybe Jorge was watching and decided to put that camera there so he wouldn’t be clueless lol.

But that’s the thing even with the freaking camera he was still clueless about Sami and honestly Vale has been on her best behavior so why even bother?

CET was more realistic being an extremely depressing drama. The parents were so involved in their own crappola they were oblivious to their kids no matter what danger signs were there. Although I am not a Jorge fan, I still think the camera was a good idea. Guess we will never agree on this one. : )

I guess we won’t amiga. I was very lucky that my daughter and I had very open lines of communication and she know that if she broke my trust a lot of her privileges would be gone. Maybe that’s one problem I’m having. Even before Vale first gave him. A problem he acted like he didn’t trust his kids. And it’s stupid, but I think about times my teenage daughter sometimes walked through the living room in her skivvies to get to the laundry room for socks in the dryer, something she would only do if it was just me… Read more »

It sounds like you have a very special relationship with your daughter. That does not happen all that often. ITA that even though this is a “comedy” it is hard to not respond seriously to many of these situations.

Friday thoughts: Since we actually got to see Ángel’s face, and it’s a recognizable actor (and I like him!) then I guess Renee will actually find him. For a little bit I was thinking that Falcón could be working with Ángel to try and get control of the complany, but after seeing Falcón with Fab I sort of doubt that. More reality reflected in the show: Kika’s social media influence. Snapchat stock has taken a hit twice when One of the Kardashians and Rihanna made some negative comments about them.
