Author: 5ftLatina

Kat is 5ftLatina. She is really 5' tall (and probably shrinking) and Latina. She is not actually a cactus, but she is both prickly and cute. Mr. 5ft is actually married to Kat, but is not 5' tall or Latina. He is also not a form of plant life.

Easily the funniest episode yet with Jorge and Kika. Loved it! They have to end up together. Second time someone threatened to call the police on Renée. This time it was Noel. It was not smart for her to show up in Fabián’s house. Flor was feeling really sick at the end of this episode. I hope it is something like food poisoning and it is not time for another illness.

Excellent! Can’t wait to watch.

My husband got a kick out of Jorge and Kika’s shenanigans. Such great physical schtick. Our favorite though was Mau still flubbing his name through the door and Jorge correcting him every time.

I felt like all of Flor’s symptoms pointed to pregnancy: exhastion (though that could just be motherhood), nausea and dizziness. They do love illness on this show, though.

They love it waaay too much and it worries me because we haven’t had anything life-threatening yet. : (

Not liking that the doctor has seen the need to do more “tests” on Flor or that now that she is in love, Renée is willing to “nest” with Mauricio and Anifer and not go to Maryland for graduate studies at the present time.

Yes! Rafael and Renée are friends again!

Sara

I haven’t watched yet, but what kind of tests…one has to be pregnancy. It probably won’t be that because it feels obvious, but I’d take that over serious illness. My husband jokingly said last night “Oh no! They aren’t going to kill a character, are they?” I told him to shut his mouth. Nerón the 2 time widower with a baby and now Flor to enterain me? Please don’t do that to me, show. Greeeaaat, Renee giving up her dream of graudate school. *sigh* Not cool. Is there a program is Mexico she could go to? This is probably the… Read more »

I remember in MMTF, there was a character interested in robotics and ended up going to Germany. Maybe Mexico isn’t the “it” place for robotics right now? Or it is just coincidence between the plots to spice up the romance in each by subjecting it to a great distance??

Sara

Sadly I know nothing about robotics and the best place to study it. I think subjecting the relationship to distance for the sake of drama is the best explanation.

Your husband might be right about killing off a character. : ( This threat makes me think of the fatal turn that SdA took. That was the worst novela and one of the worst shows I ever saw. Stil makes me shudder.

Sara

The first episode alone made me shudder.

I’m going to be annoyed if this show takes a dark turn. I know the lighter shows usually introduce some sort of drama, but please don’t go killing people!

Ugh. Streaming issues tonight so I still haven’t gotten to see Tuesday’s episode. I had a DVR conflict with Rio del destino, but luckily there is a late night rerun of it. Tonight’s PATM is recording now 🙂

Bummer. So much for technology. I still use a VCR to tape the episode so I can compare what is being shown to my “Precap” woth at least PATM. Was it you who came up with that term? The VCR remote was not working right last week so that was a major pain. It probably would be smart of me to order another remote online. One of these days when my supply of VRC’s has been depleted, I will have to get a DVR from Comcast. : )

I have a love/hate relationship with tech.

I think I first heard “precap” from NovelaMaven? I’m not sure if she orginated the term or not.

Bummer of an episode. I could not believe that Mauricio wants to take Anifer and basically run using going to Maryland with Renée as the excuse to leave the country. How long until María realizes she was talking to “Mauricio?” Kika sure showed herself to be much more than a fashion statement helping Lili face the truth and getting her to a doctor. Lili showed herself to still be such a kid looking at her calendar and not being able to remember if she had not had her period for two or three months . . .(?) At least Flor’s… Read more »

Ugh. That really was a bummer. My husband and I are both are really, really annoyed by the Flor/cancer storyline. Why???

You wondered about an unwanted pregnancy a few weeks ago, so I was sort of waiting for it. It wasn’t much of a surprise when the doctor confirmed it.

Why? Exactly.

I guess that they want the show to have some substance, but they’ve got that with RodRafa. We’re they afraid that it would be too controversial if they focused on that story too much? Because doing a lot of “serious” stories poorly isn’t the way to go.

I do love this show with all its writing flaws, but they could have left some things out and had a better show.

AAAAnd another thing….I mainly decided to watch this for the cute kid as matchmaker factor and to see if Televisa was going to do a gay storyline without resorting to stereotypes or making the gay couple there just for “the laughs.” And the show is doing a good job with both of those. So why have all this other stuff? Or maybe I’m being too judgy of the show because those are the only stories that interest me. Although the Jorge/Kika pairing has been a pleasant surprise. I’m glad they added that. So it feels like Toño and Nerón are… Read more »

Musings on the genre . . . So many novelas have too much of what seems extraneous to me at least. If they are so into serious illness, why not have a novela about people with serious/terminal disease so they can do it justice with an audience that might appreciate it? Or is the recipe for a telenovela anything and everything they can fit in that might happen to all people from birth to death in a particular locale? Sure seems that way. As for the portrayal of gays, this is doing a great job. Most novelas I have seen… Read more »

Exactly! Sometimes I swear it feels like a bait and switch.

Oddly, I don’t seem to mind the introduction of levity into a drama provided it’s not too goofy. It’s nice to have a feel good moment amid the darkness. What I don’t like is signing on for a light or comedic show and having heavy drama and death. I guess tragicomedias are not my favorite but it’s a common genre, isn’t it?

I should probably research a little more before I decide to watch a show 😉

It sure seems that tragicomedies must be popular. It is difficult to know what you are signing up for because some novelas can start out full of joy like a Broadway musical with jubilant song and dance in the streets and then do the old switcheroo and slam the viewer into downer drama so fast it makes your head spin. (SdA) Unfortunately, there is not a lot of really detailed info about a novela before we see it unless it has episode summaries on Televisa but those are loaded with spoilers which might bother some people. What we can get… Read more »

I’m definitely one of those people who gets bothered by spoilers. I just like that feeling of being surprised/shocked/add your emotion here. I know some people like to know what’s going to happen. My husband and I never want to know what’s going to happen and we avoid spoilers of both Spanish and English language television.

I remember that UFCS was a light, silly comedy (when I jumped in at the middle) and then got some pretty serious/depressing storylines.

PATM has been pleasant for the most part and I’ve also enjoyed how quickly they get through some of the stories.

It is a good thing that you and your husband agree on spoilers. ; ) I have always wondered about how UFCS was. Thanks for the info.

Sara
Autora/ Author

UFCS was really long and I didn’t start watching until it was almost halfway over. There was a lot of cute but then there was some incredibly sad things too.

My husband has a friend who always tries to say too much about a show or movie and my husband has to stop him every time. 😀

Nerón sure showed himself to be the best of the bunch in this episode in the way he told Flor about her illness and supported her.

Yay! Mauricio did the right thing in reference to Anifer and María. There still may be hope for him.

I sure hope Pablo and Lili end up together again.

Sara
Autora/ Author

Finally got caught up….sort of. The Friday episode was interrupted by special reports. Even Thursday’s episode got cut off. Is it going over now? Anyhoo. I was also glad that Mauricio did the right thing and Anifer and Maria are reunited. If Renee does turn out to be Fabi’s half sister that would be great. Mauricio would still have lots of contact with Anifer since Renee would be her aunt. Wouldn’t it be nice if Mauricio, Renée and Maria worked together against Fabi? It’s really nice that Mauricio and Renee are together and they aren’t doing those annoying keep them… Read more »
